LivMS Event: * *Date:* 02 Feb, 2023 * *Time:* 17:00 * *Presenter:* Professor Ivona Grzegorczyk * *Title:* Fine Arts and Mathematics * *Audience:* Year 11 up and anyone interested in Mathematics and/or Art * *Venue:* online * *Registration:* Via [Eventbrite](https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/fine-arts-and-mathematics-tickets-510764800267) * *Contact:* Peter Newstead ---- COLUMN_START^ [[[ IMG:RomanCandy.png ]]] COLUMN_SPLIT^ !! To understand the mystery and complexity of various artistic designs one has to understand mathematical rules governing their creation. We start by exploring repetitious patterns and Escher-type geometric designs. Using symmetries and other recursive rules we study plane and 3D patterns, including fractal structures. Visualizing solutions of equations, we study beautiful images of algebraic surfaces and their properties. Please bring color pencils, a compass and a ruler. Ivona Grzegorczyk is a Professor at California State University at Channel Islands. The University is at Camarillo, which lies between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara. It is not situated on the Channel Islands, which lie off the coast nearby. Ivona Grzegorczyk's Faculty webpage may be found [here](https://ciapps.csuci.edu/FacultyBios/FacultyBiography/Details/148).
