These are the mysterious dark matter and dark energy that are known to exist from indirect observations but which have never been directly observed. I will the evidence for these components and possible explanations and current attempts to pin down their nature. Ed Hardy is a lecturer and a Future Leaders Fellow of UK Research and Innovation working on the standard model in the theoretical physics division of the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Liverpool.
