*Problem*Solving* and *Reasoning*Mathematically* are two of the key aims of the new ~Mathematics National Curriculum, the ability to solve problems and reason are essential to everyday life. _
This session aims to explore how we can provide engaging opportunities for learners in primary school to develop these skills through a ~range of practical activities which can be used in the classroom.
Aims:
To explore how reasoning and problem solving skills support deep sustainable learning in ~mathematics
To engage in practical activities which create opportunities to integrate ~mathematical reasoning and problem solving into the curriculum
*Claire*Martin* is an independent education consultant based in the North West with 18 years experience in the primary sector. She has taught across the primary age ~range in schools in Birmingham, Trafford, Chicago and Warrington, where she was deputy headteacher for four years.
Claire’s passion lies in ~mathematics and she has been ~mathematics subject leader, leading ~mathematics teacher and primary ~mathematics consultant in both Lancashire and Warrington. She is an accredited Every Child Counts Teacher Leader and leads professional development for teachers and teaching assistants to deliver ~mathematics intervention programmes. Claire is an affiliate Numicon trainer, NCETM Professional Development Accredited Lead and gained an MA in Early ~Mathematics Intervention in 2011. Claire continues to teach ~maths in primary schools and works with teachers, teaching assistants, subject leaders and teaching students to provide meaningful experiences to motivate and enthuse learners.
