Euclid, also known as Euclid of Alexandria and the "Father of Geometry", was a Greek mathematician

who lived around 300BC. His book "The Elements" is described as the most successful textbook in the

history of mathematics. In it, the principles of what is now called Euclidean geometry are deduced

from a small ~~set~~ collection of axioms. Euclid also wrote works on perspective, conic sections,

spherical geometry,

and ~~rigor.~~ rigour.

* Proved there are infinitely many prime numbers

* ~~worked~~ Worked on geometry

** now called Euclidean geometry, because there are now Non-Euclidean versions of geometry

* ~~perfect~~ Perfect numbers

* Mersenne primes

* Euclidean algorithm for finding the greatest common divisor of two numbers.

* Invented the Dedekind Cut

** (apparently in !/ "The Elements" !/ )
