Professor Peter Newstead was President of the Liverpool Mathematical Society in 1998 and retired from his University of Liverpool position in 2006. He remained active in research and was Treasurer of the Society until 2024. In the past, he was also Chair of the Roadshow Subcommittee and Treasurer of the Liverpool Mathematical Society Bursary Fund (see Joyce Hatton Memorial Bursaries).
