The area of Mathematical Physics dealing with forces and their effect on bodies. These effects include displacement, velocity, acceleration, momentum, impulse, energy and work. Classical mechanics has its origins at least as early as the Greeks however Isaac Newton developed the subject greatly with the construction of his three laws of motion. Further progress in the subject was made by William Hamilton, Joseph Louis Lagrange and others. In the early part of the 20th Century these laws were superseded by Quantum Mechanics, developed by Neils Bohr and others and the theories of Special Relativity and General Relativity originated by Albert Einstein. However this progress cannot be the last word in the understanding of this subject as the two developments are in conflict being incompatible with each other. Some think String Theory may be the next step forward, others say Loop Quantum Gravity. Watch this space (but don't hold your breath).
