An Irrational Number is one that cannot be expressed as a ratio. For example, 3/5 is clearly a rational number, because it's a ratio. However, root two is irrational. Other examples of irrational numbers are EQN:\pi,{\quad}e, (which are transcendental numbers) and the Golden Ratio EQN:\phi (which is an algebraic number).
