[[[> IMG:Galileo_5.jpeg ]]] One of the very few people in history known almost exclusively by his first name. Galileo (15 February 1564 - 8 January 1642) worked out (correctly) that the distance an object travels when falling is proportional to the square of the time. He performed a series of elegant experiments with balls rolling down a slope, and timing how long it takes. * Pendulum is isochronous * /d/ proportional to EQN:t^2 * Very early telescope * 1610: Eclipses of Galilean Moons, Moons of Jupiter * 1610: Phases of Venus * 1638: Speed of Light (failed) ---- One of the Famous People on this site.
